WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, America First Works (AFW) praised the North Carolina General Assembly for overriding Governor Roy Cooper’s veto of S.B. 20, which cares for women, children, and families, creating a culture of life and opportunity for North Carolina families. AFW Executive Director Ashley Hayek released the following statement in support of yesterday’s vote:

“The North Carolina Legislature stood up for families against Governor Cooper’s radical agenda. The ‘Care for Women, Children, and Families Act’ provides more than $160 million for foster care, childcare, and parental leave, and prevents abortion after 12 weeks of pregnancy when a baby can feel pain. The legislature also took into account the safety of the mother, allowing an exemption should her life be at risk. North Carolina has taken a step to care for the whole unit — the mother and the baby. Governor Cooper’s veto was out of line with North Carolinians and the entire county, as most Americans believe a pregnancy involves two lives.

Thanks to North Carolina’s legislators, S.B. 20 will now be the law of the land in the Tar Heel State. AFW applauds their efforts and fully endorses legislation like this one that protects the unborn.”
