Tallahassee, Fla. – America First Works’ Senior Advisor, Jack Brewer, issued the following statement in support of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signing AFW supported House Bill 7065.
“Governor DeSantis and those in the Florida legislature who supported this bill will have a true and meaningful impact on the lives of millions of Florida children,” said Jack Brewer. “Enacting House Bill 7065 into law will give the sunshine state the tools to fight the growing crisis of fatherlessness. For far too long, our society has denied the unique roles fathers play in their children’s lives. We are now paying a high price for that neglect. This new law is a much-needed step to recognize and encourage the importance of fatherhood.”
HB 7065, introduced by Representative Thad Altman (FL-52), encourages responsible fatherhood, alleviates the crisis of at-risk boys, and supports foster children—especially those who age out of care. The bill passed the Florida legislature with bipartisan support. Fatherlessness and the destruction of the “nuclear” family are often at the center of every significant social issue we face as a Nation today. Its effects range from education, homelessness, mental health, crime, and more.
The new law, among its many provisions, creates a program to provide grants to organizations that serve single fathers who are working to become self-sufficient, assesses community-based care led agencies to ensure programs are father-oriented and address any critical gaps, and requires the Department of Children and Families to maintain a resource website on responsible fatherhood.
