WASHINGTON, DC– Today, America First Works (AFW) launched Protect the Vote Pledge for elected officials to sign to ensure their state has election laws that allow for free and fair elections.
Election laws changed in many states during the 2020 Election due to the coronavirus global pandemic. Nearly two-thirds of eligible voters cast their 2020 election ballot outside traditional walk-up polling locations. The consequences of these drastic, highly irregular, sometimes deceitful, and even radically motivated changes to our election law brought on a historic shattering of trust in government and our election system. Many of these changes still exist except for a few states, like Florida.
“Confidence in our elections is at an all-time low, and this Pledge aims to change that,” said Ken Blackwell, former Secretary of State of Ohio and Senior Advisor to America First Works. “Free and fair elections are the backbone of our democracy, and the Protect the Vote Pledge is a commitment that politicians from both parties are making to their constituents, promising to strengthen and restore trust in our election system – and earn back the trust of voters.”
By strengthening our election system, AFW will ensure it is easy to vote and impossible to cheat. Some measures to secure our elections include requiring government-issued photo identification for in-person and mail-in voting, ending the practice of ballot trafficking, and eliminating private money to conduct public elections. These efforts can ensure that fraud and other irregularities never happen in our elections again.
By signing this pledge, elected officials and candidates vow to the American people that they stand for election integrity and will make sure that 2022, 2024, and beyond are the safest elections. The American people demand and deserve it!
