WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, America First Works issued the following statement from former Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Chad Wolf after the Senate voted in favor of the Biden Administration’s rule that will increase asylum fraud.
“Today, the Senate had an opportunity to send the Biden Administration a strong message that their border security strategy is a failed strategy. Instead, the Left in the Senate voted to support the Administration’s arbitrary and capricious rule changes that undermine border security, endanger communities across the Nation, and delegitimize our immigration system. Congress failed the American people by allowing this Administration’s open border policies to continue unabated.”
Since assuming office in January 2021, the Biden Administration has systematically dismantled effective and proven policies that secured our southern border. The Administration has made it clear time and again that its only plan to address the historic border crisis its policies created is to process more and more aliens into the country, as quickly as possible. As part of that plan, DHS and DOJ recently proposed a joint rule that will encourage more illegal immigration by making it easier for aliens to obtain asylum regardless of the merits of their claims. The Administration accomplishes this by moving adjudication responsibilities away from immigration judges and into the hands of DHS asylum officers. These claims will now be heard without an ICE attorney present to challenge the alien’s story which will undoubtedly result in higher asylum acceptance rates.
