Washington, DC.– America First Works Senior Advisor Jack Brewer issued the following statement in support of Congressman Burgess Owens’ (UT-04) and Congressman Bryon Donalds’ (FL-19) House Resolution that addresses the importance of fatherhood and the fatherlessness crisis plaguing America:
“Today, our Nation is facing a serious crisis—the destruction of the nuclear family and fatherlessness. This resolution could not come at a better time, and I am incredibly grateful Congressman Burgess Owens and Congressman Byron Donalds are taking the first step in addressing this issue head-on,” said Brewer. “This Resolution encourages responsible fatherhood, as fathers are head of households, which will uplift all Americans, especially those in vulnerable communities. Fatherlessness is at the center of every major issue we are facing today, and its effects range from education, health, crime, and more. If Congress is serious about establishing policies to help rebuild the foundation of righteousness in America, they will support this resolution to support a father’s critical role in children’s lives.”
Fatherlessness statistics in the U.S.:
• 90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes.
• 85% of all youths in prison come from fatherless homes.
• 75% of families relying on government support through public housing are led by single women.
• 71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes.
According to the Census Bureau, about 1 in 4 children live without a father in the home. In addition, the U.S. has the highest rate of children living in single-parent households among any country globally, and Black children are disproportionally affected by this epidemic, with nearly 6 million Black children in the U.S. growing up in a single-parent home.
