“Mayra Flores’s victory in Texas’s 34th Congressional district yesterday is nothing less than historic.
For a conservative to win in what was, overwhelmingly, a historically left-dominated district is extraordinary, because it signifies the left’s progressive loss of its own former base. That this same district is also overwhelmingly Mexican-American is revelatory, because it illuminates the increasing conservative appeal to Hispanic and working-class Americans. That the Congresswoman-elect is furthermore an immigrant shows that the conservative message speaks to all Americans — no matter our origin, race, or ethnicity.
Flores’s win now shows us what is coming this fall: a great movement by Americans of all walks of life, to reclaim our country, and rebuild from the ruins of the Biden years. She is the harbinger of a bright tomorrow. It’s up to us to fulfill that promise — in Texas, and beyond.
