WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, America First Works Hispanic Spokesperson Jorge Martinez released the following statement regarding the instability in Venezuela:
“The situation in Venezuela warrants serious concern due to the ongoing political and economic instability under the corrupt regimes of Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro. Significant human rights abuses, suppression of dissent, and severe economic mismanagement have characterized these administrations.
The recent election results, which suggest Edmundo González was duly elected president, must be respected. The international community must acknowledge and support the democratic process in Venezuela.
Furthermore, the Maduro regime must cease all forms of violence and threats against peaceful protesters. Respect for human rights and the rule of law is non-negotiable and must be enforced to pave the way for a stable and democratic Venezuela.”
