The One, Big, Beautiful Bill is a Game-Changer for Ohio Families

July 28th, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, America First Works (AFW) proudly celebrates Vice President JD Vance’s return to his home state of Ohio, as he joins President Donald J. Trump in fighting for America’s forgotten men and women. AFW proudly supports the president’s historic One, Big, Beautiful Bill (OBBB) as a monumental win for the working class, especially in Ohio. This landmark legislation delivers on the Trump-Vance promise to Make America Great Again.

“The One, Big, Beautiful Bill is President Trump’s masterstroke,” said AFW President Ashley Hayek. “This isn’t just a bill; it’s a declaration that the American Dream is once again obtainable, and families are finally getting the relief they deserve under the leadership of President Trump and Vice President Vance.”

For working-class Ohioans, the OBBB is a game-changer. It eliminates burdensome taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security benefits, and it provides unprecedented funding for border security. Most notably, it makes the 2017 tax cuts permanent. By preventing the expiration of the Trump tax cuts, it shields families from a devastating $4.5 trillion national tax hike that Democrats, like Congresswoman Emilia Sykes (OH-13), were eager to impose. Ohio’s manufacturing heartland benefits directly from targeted tariffs on foreign steel, which have already created thousands of jobs in steel production and related industries, boosting revenues for local businesses by 10–15% and supporting tens of thousands of steel-related positions statewide. No more watching American jobs shipped overseas — President Trump’s policies are bringing them back home.

In Ohio’s 13th Congressional District, encompassing communities from Canton to Akron, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Without the OBBB, the average family of four would face a crippling $4,198 in new taxes due to the looming expiration of the 2017 cuts. Congresswoman Sykes voted against the OBBB that would have imposed this tax hike on families. Thankfully, her colleagues in Congress stood with working families, allowing Ohioans to invest in their homes, education, and futures, rather than lining the pockets of Washington bureaucrats. This is real relief for the forgotten men and women of the Rust Belt, proving once again that President Trump fights for the working class, not the elite.

The OBBB protects servers, factory workers, and truck drivers in places like Cleveland and Youngstown, allowing them to keep more of their hard-earned money:

    • No Tax on Tips: Ohioans will receive about $1,3000 more from no tax on tips per year — and this provision is retroactive to the tips earned for all of 2025!
    • No Tax on Overtime: Ohioans can receive up to $1,400 more per year from no tax on overtime, and this provision is also retroactive to all overtime earned in 2025.
    • Child Tax Credits: Increases the Child Tax Credit from $2,000 to $2,500, supporting Ohio families!

Congresswoman Sykes voted against all of these wins for the working families in her district. Her vote would have cost her constituents up to $11,700 in take-home pay.

The OBBB isn’t just policy — it’s a promise to restore the American Dream. AFW is proud that Vice President Vance is sharing the truth of the OBBB with his fellow Ohioans today.
